Configuring the Artisan Mailbox Manager
The ArtiSan Mailbox Manager is controlled and configured through a .Net 2.0 web application
called the ArtiSan Management UI, which is hosted on the ArtiSan Server. This allows the administrator
to control the system from their own desktop. The Management UI can be configured to restrict access
to specific users and groups to allow customers tight control of the system.
The management UI contains a series of tabs to allow the customer to configure the system to suit their needs.
The Configuration tab controls system-wide settings such as the credentials used by the system to access Exchange, the location of
the software and data files and so on. The Settings tab sets basic settings such as the minumum size of items to stub, whether
attachment links should be placed in stubs, whether the system should process public folders, whether the system
should archive non-mail content such as notes, tasks, appointments and so on.
The Storage tab is used to create and configure archive repositories. A major feature of the underlying
archive architecture is the ability to support multiple archive stores with differing relevant date ranges. The system will
automatically move items from one store to another given the underlying date of the item.

The Rules tab, shown here, is used to create rules and policies. The image shows the simple dialog editor that is
used to generate a rule, in this case, the rule associated with the "Domain Users" group. There is also a free-form text editor
that can be used to create more site-specific rules.
The Maintenance tab is used by administrators to perform batch functions on the archive and Exchanges. This includes the
ability to bulk restore part or all of a mailbox, repermission items in the archive, reset a mailbox and so on.
The Monitor and Log tabs are used to monitor the state of the system. The Monitor page provides details of the last 24
hours of activity in the system. The Log pages provides access to the system logs and allows the administrator to decide the
degree of logging detail required for each of the main components.
In addition, the management UI provides access to a special self-diagnostic page that performs a range of tests on the system and
its environment to identify installation and configuration issues.
